Greater Works, I shall do

Greater Works, I Shall do

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12KJV)

This promise is for “believers”. The promise is for anyone that believes on Him (Jesus). According to the promise, the believers shall be able to go as far and beyond what Jesus did while on the earth. The concern here now is that the believers must exceed the level of the belief of Satan. The Scripture emphasizes that this type of belief must exceed mere believing in God. After all, even Satan believes that also. “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble.” (James 2:19 KJV)

Who is a believer? The Bible definitions of believers are listed below.

A believer is:

  • Anyone who has repented of his or her sins.
  • Anyone that believes in the gospel. “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” (Mark 1:15 KJV)
  • Anyone that believes in God and Jesus. “Let not your heart be trouble: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1 KJV)
  • Anyone that got his salvation through believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. “  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” (Act 16:31 KJV)
  • Anyone that believes on the sonship and name of Jesus Christ as the only begotten son. “And this is his commandments, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” (I John 3:23 KJV).

What are these greater works? Jesus was referring to his deeds, acts, power, and anointing,

  • Jesus was referring to the miracles, healing, signs, wonders, and might and acts. His works consisted of healing all manner of sickness and disease, casting out devils, raising the dead, cleansing the lepers, and innumerable acts of deliverance from all the works of Satan. Mathew 11:20-23; John5;20; 10:25
  • The promise is that all believers can receive the power – Luke 10:19; 24:49; Act 1:4-8.
  • The promise is for believers to receive the Holy Spirit equal power and do as well greater things when occasion demands for it.

In conclusion, the word of God says, ”….The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
